
3 Fast Open String Blues Licks
At 200 BPM, these licks are very fast, and so I’ve put them in the Advanced category. It’s easy to imagine SRV playing these licks, just listen to Scuttle Buttin’ and you’ll know what I mean. Try and make the strings ring out as much as possible for maximum shrillness. All the licks are based on the E Blues Scale, so there’s nothing complicated going on here as far as theory goes.
I’d say that the 2nd lick is the hardest because of string skipping, but something that helped me was anchoring the second finger throughout that part.
