Albert Lee Style Solo & 4 Country Licks

Howdy folks! This week we’re looking at a very American style of music played in the style of the very English Albert Lee.

Though Albert Lee is known as a master of the Country guitar, he has played with a variety of different artists including Eric Clapton, The Everly Brothers, and ex-Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman. Listening to the likes of Cliff Gallup, Scotty Moore, and James Burton, Albert would learn their solos note for note before developing his own rapid-fire style.

The four example licks are designed to show some of the trademarks featured in the solo in a breakdown format. These are more generic licks and would be played, not just by Albert, but any Country guitarist worth his salt. We’re playing along with the open string friendly and Country favourite key of G Major.

As always, below the YouTube video you’ll find the backing track to play along with, and below that, the tablature. Aren’t I nice?!

Feel free to ask questions or just share your thoughts in the comments!
