Carlos Santana Style Solo

The backing track for this one is pretty simple, it’s just two chords, Am7 and D7, being repeated. These chords go hand in hand with the A Dorian Mode. Most of the song really emphasises the minor 6th note, with the Blues Scale’s flat 5th here and there. Watch out for the Sweep Picking in bars 9 and 10, which could be regarded as an E Minor Arpeggio, which goes well with the backing because it a Diatonic Chord of the same key. Bars 12 and 13 contain a very Santana-esque repeating lick, finishing with a sweep picked G Major Arpeggio, which, like the E minor Arpeggio, is a Diatonic Chord of the same key. The last lick is basically having some fun with the Blues Scale.

As always, below the YouTube video you’ll find the backing track to play along with, and below that, the tablature. Aren’t I nice?!
